In June 2020, former employees of the Japanese film company UPLINK filed a lawsuit against its president, Asai Takashi. The plaintiffs allege that Asai perpetrated power harassment--a form of workplace abuse in which someone in a position of greater power uses that power to harass or bully a lower-ranking person. The case comes in the heels of the Anti-Power Harassment Law, which went into effect on June 1, 2020. Under the new regulation, Japanese employers are required to take action to combat workplace harassment, including sexual harassment and power harassment.
