Activists and local residents in Karachi, Pakistan, have been protesting house demolition, evictions, and the expansion of the giant luxury estate Bahria Town in their ancestral lands. Indigenous communities have opposed the Karachi project since its launch in 2014. The latest clashes began in April 2021 as activists resisted work to expand the housing complex into nearby villages. Villages reportedly possess valid ownership documents of their lands. A protestor had reportedly sustained bullet wounds when armed guards of Bahria Town private security firm clashed with villagers in Kathore. On 30 April, 2021 Bahria Town and police were instructed to halt evictions in the villages, but bulldozers returned on 7 May and protests against the development saw 14 people injured. Police reportedly arrested 13 Bahria Town security guards and staff for alleged rioting, kidnapping and injuring villagers.
