MIGRANTE Philippines yesterday slammed President Marcos Jr and the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) for allegedly giving displaced overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) false hopes of getting their back wages from Saudi Arabia (KSA) before this year ends.

“Marcos is making a fool out of the Saudi OFWs. The government appears to be playing with the emotions of these OFWs who have been waiting for seven years for their salaries,” Migrante Philippines president Arman Hernando said in a statement…

De Vega, during a joint congressional oversight committee hearing on migrant workers at the Senate last Thursday, said the settlement of the unpaid wages is not expected to happen this year. “Early this year, our embassy reported that it is not realistic to expect it to come this year,” he said.

Thousands of OFWs have been displaced and left unpaid in 2015 and 2016 after several Saudi construction firms declared bankruptcy.

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., during his State of the Nation Address last July, said the payment of back wages of some 14,000 OFWs was “being processed.”…
