The Myanmar Alliance for Transparency and Accountability (MATA) released a statement signed by 445 civil society organisations calling for oil and gas companies to stop revenue payments to the military. The statement notes that income from the extractive sector is one of the main sources of revenue for the military. Such revenue, the statement asserts, is collected by the Myanma Oil and Gas Enterprise (MOGE), which is under military control. The statement further claims that "revenue payments would help sustain the military's illegitimate governance, provide them with the resources necessary to carry out military operations that violate human rights...".
