Myanmar: Garment workers at Hunter Textile face series of violations incl. mandatory overtime & denial of leave; incl. co. response
In August 2023, it was reported that workers at Hunter Textile faced a series of violations, including mandatory overtime, the hiring of day labourers who are denied permanent employment, receive below minimum wage pay and denied benefits incl. leave, insufficient medical supplies, denial of leave incl. sick leave, and verbal abuse if targets are not met. Workers' demands included access to a doctor at the factory, workers who don't want to work overtime to not be discriminated against, and transportation to be provided in a fair way.
In January 2024, Business & Human Rights Resource Centre invited OVS SpA and MANA to respond. OVS SpA responded. MANA did not. The response can be found below.
