"Pregnant workers lose maternity leave", 13 April 2024
Workers from...MYAMKA GARMENT LIMITED factory... are not entitled to legal benefits and the pregnant workers are also losing their maternity leaves and benefits as well.
The factory is manufacturing SPRINFFIELD [clothing] with more than 1,500 workers...
“We have to contribute 3,000 kyats for social security per month. But we are not entitled to the social security leaves. Daily wages 5,800 kyats and attendance bonus 20,000 kyats are cut for taking a single day leave...” said the worker...
The pregnant workers only entitled to unpaid leave for birth...the supervisors are verbally abusing and harassing [workers] for not finishing the [targets]...
“They asked for unfair [targets] and we have to sign warnings if we can’t finish...They force us [to work] all nights overtime too and those who don’t work are treated with malice. Workers who have to work all nights are not provided enough meal and some times they even have to work without eating as the foods are outdated,” said a worker.
And the water for toilet is connected with drinking water which makes them uncomfortable to drink and there is no medic clinic and medicines in the factory as well...
