Mexico: Grievance Mechanism of the German Automotive Industry, a step towards respecting human rights in supply chains

CIEDH

On 7 May 2024, the official launch of the Cross Company Grievance Mechanism (MRDH) took place in Mexico City. This has been the result of four and a half years of work between civil society organisations, companies, trade unions, governments and national human rights institutions in Mexico and Germany to contribute to the respect of human rights in the supply chains of the German automotive industry in Mexico. The Business & Human Rights Resource Centre is part of the Multi-Stakeholder Board that governs the MRDH.

This mechanism is intended to address the needs of workers, communities and affected groups in order to be effective in preventing and remedying real impacts identified.

Civil society organisations ask companies and political institutions for their commitment and long-term participation, as well as the guarantee of financial and human resources for civil society engagement. Access to information on the supply chains of participating companies and the uncertain long-term future of the mechanism are highlighted as points of concern.
