DRC: Mining company TFM decides to relocate and compensate more than a thousand families, but denies allegations of pollution
In the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), cases of illness have been reported in recent months in the community of Mano-Mapia, near the mining company Tenke Fungurume Mining (TFM), a subsidiary of the Chinese group CMOC, which operates a "30k" copper and cobalt processing plant nearby. According to a local NGO, these health problems are linked to pollution from the TFM plant. The company categorically denies the pollution allegations. It has, however, agreed to relocate and compensate more than a thousand families living near the mine.
