Statements by Muriel Mining regarding Mandé Norte/Murindó project – NGO rejoinders

In May 2009, Business & Human Rights Resource Centre invited Muriel Mining Corporation (MMC) to respond to a report by Colombia Solidarity Campaign, “Rio Tinto and the impact of the Mandé Norte/Murindó mining exploration project on indigenous Embera and Afrocolombian communities in the provinces of Choco and Antioquia, Colombia” includes links to: - Muriel Mining response, 16 May: “Muriel Mining respects the traditions, culture and beliefs of the communities who lives on the territory around area of influence of the exploration project.” - Rio Tinto statement, 6 May - ABColombia rejoinder, 16 June: “Inter-Church Commission for Justice and Peace (CIJP) and Peace Brigades International (PBI)...were the subject of insinuations apparently made by Muriel Mining, implying links with illegal armed actors in Colombia” - Muriel Mining rejoinder, 6 July: “It hasn’t been the intention of Muriel to discredit any organization...” - Inter-Church Commission for Justice and Peace (CIJP) rejoinder, 3 July: "This fresh stigmatisation of CIJP’s actions seeks to distract attention from the factual and legal grounds for arguing that there has not been a true and genuine consultation process, and that the Muriel’s exploration has been on sacred land..."
