Taiwan: FCF denies Shark Guardian's allegations of labor & environmental violations, says claims "outdated"

This follows a report from NGO Shark Guardian, which alleged FCF is failing to act on severe environmental and human rights violations within its supply chain Shark Guardian's report, called "Empty Promises, Empty Oceans," alleged significant discrepancies between FCF's public pledges and the actual practices of its suppliers.

The company expressed a willingness to engage with stakeholders on matters of environmental impact and labor practices, but it pushed back against the claims made by Shark Guardian, labeling them as "outdated" and, in many cases, not supported by "reliable evidence".

FCF clarified that many of the issues raised had already been addressed through coordination with regulatory bodies, vessel operators, and relevant authorities According to FCF, these efforts included imposing sanctions and enforcing corrective actions where necessary...

In an official statement FCF acknowledged its responsibility in addressing critical environmental and social issues affecting the seafood sector...

"As one of the global seafood leaders, FCF recognizes our responsibility to continue to close the gap on some of the biggest sustainability and social challenges impacting our business, industry, and world. We are making great progress through a strategic combination of internal mitiatives as well as external projects and partnerships," it said.

FCF underscored its commitment to enforcing strict policies agamst IUU fishing and forced labor, reiterating that any vessel implicated in credible allegations faces immediate suspension pending a thorough investigation.

"FCF maintains a strict policy against IUU fishing and forced labor practices and swiftly suspends business with any vessel facing credible allegations until thorough investigations are concluded, the firm stated "If necessary, corrective actions are not taken, we remove the vessels from our supply chain".
