UN Working Group on Business & Human Rights launches ambitious project to implement UNGPs more broadly in next decade
On 7 July 2020, the UN Working Group on Business and Human Rights launched a new global project, 'Business and human rights: towards a decade of global implementation' (UNGPs 10+ / Next Decade BHR), centred around the upcoming tenth anniversary of the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights (UNGPs).
The project will take stock of achievements to date, assess existing gaps and challenges, and develop an ambitious vision and roadmap for for scaling up the implementation of the UNGPs over the next 10 years. To help inform stocktaking and the roadmap for the next decade, the UN Working Group is seeking input from a wide range of stakeholders and inviting responses via the “Have your say!” written input form (Deadline: 30 November).
It will also examine drivers and opportunities for speeding and scaling up UNGPs implementation, focusing in particular on
- the role of more effective regulatory drivers (the mandatory dimension of the “smart mix” prescribed by the UNGPs for Government action); and
- the role and leverage of financial sector actors.
