USA: Civil society organizations call on major telcos to ensure internet connectivity for anticipated election demonstrations
Ten civil society organizations sent a letter to the major US wireless providers requesting they ensure adequate wireless capacity for expected election-related demonstrations in early November 2020, emphasising that internet was an essential enabler of human rights, and mobile and voice connectivity were particularly important for people to exercise their rights to freedom of assembly, freedom of expression, and access to information. Business & Human Rights Resource Centre invited all the companies mentioned in the letter to respond: AT&T responded - their response is available below. Dish Wireless, T-Mobile (part of Deutsche Telekom), U.S. Cellular & Verizon did not respond.
