Valero’s response to fuel supply for violent conflict following ICJ ruling

According to reports published by Oil Change International and SOMO, it is alleged that Valero “has been a long-time and key supplier of JP-8 to Israel”. Israel has received "three tankers of JP-8 Jet Fuel" from the U.S. since the war started, all "originating from Valero's Bill Greehey refinery." The report further alleges the company “may be said to make a substantial contribution to war crimes committed by the Israeli military in Gaza” as this fuel is crucial for Israel’s aerial operations, including those reported to be involved in attacks against civilians. Despite growing international pressure and scrutiny over military aid to Israel, the continued supply of jet fuel by Valero, highlights the company’s purported complicity in supporting military actions that contribute to severe human rights abuses.

We request Valero to respond to the above as well as the following questions:

  1. Can you confirm if your company supplies military jet fuel (JP8) to Israel?
  2. How does your company reconcile its supply of military jet fuel (JP8) to Israel with the International Court of Justice ruling and its obligations under the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights?

Valero's response is as follows, "We do not sell fuel to Israel or the Israel Defense Forces. We are, however, a contractually bound supplier of various fuels to the United States military in several locations, including their use at U.S. military bases."
