Zimbabwe: New tool tracks reported human rights allegations and ESG issues of foreign investment in key sectors
The ESG Tracker details reported allegations of human rights abuses as well as broad environmental, social and governance issues reported against companies operating in Zimbabwe. The ESG does not track all companies, but focuses on foreign companies with operations in the mining, agriculture, and infrastructure development and construction sector in Zimbabwe.
The information we use is collected through a mixed methodology that includes engagements with community monitors who reside in the localities where companies operate, allegations appearing in articles from local media, NGO reports, and reports by employees.
The tracker allows policy makers, researchers, civil society organisations to:
- Understand investments being made into the mining sector and the geographic setting where the companies operates.
- Explore the environmental, social and governance implications of the investments.
- Determine whether the tracked investments and related companies are complying with different pieces of legislative frameworks.
- Identify investments where environmental, social and cultural rights have been violated and to find ways of dealing with the challenges.
