2022年以降、世界的な生活費危機がアパレル製品の製造を担う国々に及ぼす影響に注目した報道が目立ちはじめた。

特に、バングラデシュ、コロンビア、パキスタン、フィリピン、インドネシア、トルコ、スワジランド、ベトナムといった国々のサプライヤーからは服飾ブランドからの注文が減っているとの報告がある一方、ブランド側は、景気後退、高インフレ、西欧諸国における消費者需要の低迷といった脅威が迫り、在庫の積み増しにつながっている現状が報告されている。発注減や発注取り消しはすでにサプライヤーが対応しているケースが多いが、同時にブランドからの賃金支払いの遅延、衣料品の出荷延期、工賃削減の申し入れの報告も相次いでいる。

こうした現状の影響は縫製労働者に波及している。サプライヤーによる一部の工場の操業停止や大量解雇により、インフレ上昇や低賃金によりすでに困難を抱えている労働者は、労働時間削減も強いられている。
