Civil society organizations have shown support to the Guarani and Kaiowá community, following a recent court order evicting them from their ancestral land in Mato Grosso do Sul in favour of a sugarcane plantation and factory. The community has been repeatedly evicted from their territory since 1990; the current land they occupy, positioned between a sugarcane field and a contaminated stream, is so small, that lack of food, nutrition, access to health and education are regular concerns for the community. They have also experienced regular attacks and death threats, as well as attempts at repossession, which they claim could cause the genocide of the indigenous group.
