The ‘Protect, Respect, Remedy’ conference was held in Stockholm on 10 and 11 November 2009 as part of the Swedish Presidency of the European Union. The aim of the event was to examine the ways in which the United Nations Framework on business and human rights might best be incorporated into the European Union (EU) and the EU commitment to corporate responsibility. It also looked in particular at the role that European member states might play in carrying out their duty to protect individuals from corporate-related human rights abuses… The Conference concluded with the Spanish and Swedish Governments delivering their Joint Declaration, which is repeated in the Annex to this report.
