USA: California bill would set excessive heat standard for warehouse workers

"Logistics: Heat safety bill could affect Inland logistics industry", 5 May 2016

A bill in the state Legislature looks to set standards for indoor heat working conditions... “People are surprised there is nothing in place right now,” said Sen. Connie Leyva...who authored the bill... It calls for Cal-OSHA, the state Division of Occupational Safety, to...[develop] “an indoor health and safety standard that protects workers from heat-related illness and injury.”...

There are heat illness protection standards in California for outdoor workers...[adopted] in response to farm and construction worker deaths caused by laboring in extreme temperatures.

A 2011 report by Warehouse Workers United said...high temperatures...sometimes reach 125 degrees...

“There is more potential for lawsuits if a standard isn’t in place,” she said. “It is far less costly than having a lawsuit over someone dying.” [refers to temperature standards at Amazon warehouses]
