USA: FedEx declines to drop sponsorship of Washington Redskins - urged to do so over concerns team name is racist

"FedEx Declines To Drop Redskins Sponsorship", 29 Sep 2014

Shareholders of...FedEx voted to reject a request from the Oneida Indian tribe Monday to sever its connections to the Washington Redskins.  “...[We] continue to direct questions about the [team's] name to the franchise owner,” Patrick Fitzgerald, FedEx’s Senior Vice President of Marketing and Communications, said...The Oneida Indian tribe requested that the company withdraw its sponsorship and distance itself from the team until it changes its name. “The Washington D.C. franchise’s name, ‘Redskins,’ is a dehumanizing word with hateful connotations for Native American peoples and others concerned about human rights,” Susan White, Trust Director of the Oneida Tribe of Indians of Wisconsin, told the senior leadership of FedEx.
