Holcim Lebanon: Chekka cement plant linked to health and environmental risks

Residents of the northern district of Koura, Lebanon claim Holcim’s cement plant is directly responsible for the spread of cancer, along with other heart and lung diseases, throughout the region. Sulfur dioxide emissions of petroleum coke have also been reported in residential areas and around water sources, which allegedly violate Lebanon’s Law No. 444 – Environmental Protection.
