Kenya: NGOs claim some locals near a closed smelter dying of lead poisoning-related complications

Civil society organisations say more than 900 residents living around a closed lead smelter tested positive for lead poisoning and continue to experience health-related complications arising from past activities of the factory. The complications include miscarriage by pregnant women, death among children and respiratory complications. They have called on the government to ensure reparations including comprehensive medical support for the victims.
