On 14 February 2024, newly elected president of the Wing Star Shoes union, Chea Chan was detained at work by police and charged for “conspiracy to commit theft”, over the crime that allegedly happened two years ago. International and local unions view Chan's detention as a crackdown on unions and an attempt to stop the formation of unions in factories.
