Bettercoal's response to IPRI-IWGIA 2021 report

All information relating to our Code is available on our website. These are finalised documents, not drafts (you reference ‘draft’ code requirements). For ease:

Bettercoal Code 2.0: https://bettercoal.org/resource/bettercoal-code-2-0/

Page 19, Provisions 5.3-5.5 focus on “Indigenous and Tribal Peoples”

Bettercoal Guidance: https://bettercoal.org/resource/bettercoal-code-2-0-guidance/

Pages 91-101 provide a detailed description of the numerous international standards and conventions taken into consideration for the assessment of these issues.

These documents will give you an accurate picture of the requirements we have under the Bettercoal Code.

Bettercoal is open to constructive engagement with a wide variety of stakeholders, including the Business & Human Rights Resource Centre. In fact, Bettercoal, through its Colombia Working Group, engaged with the organisation’s representatives Christen Dobson and Amanda Romero in June 2020 to discuss the issue of human rights in Colombia, especially on the situation of human rights defenders. It was a very interesting and productive conversation, as it allowed Bettercoal and its Members to gather a better understanding of these issues in the Colombian context and consider potential action from our side.
