Court: Smithfield Walkout Not Protected [USA]

A walkout by employees of a Smithfield Foods contractor angry over a supervisor's firing was not a legally protected labor action, a federal appeals court ruled Wednesday. The ruling by the 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals negates a National Labor Relations Board panel's finding that Smithfield's private police force and managers from the contractor, QSI Inc., illegally bullied and abused workers during the November 2003 protest.
