Emperor accused of human rights violation in Fiji

Australian mining company, Emperor Mines Ltd [part of DRD Gold], has been accused of long-standing human rights violations at its former Vatukoula gold mine, Australian press reported. The Fiji Human Rights Commission (FHRC) is investigating complaints from more than 400 workers of human rights violations relating to wages, housing and health dating back to 1991...Company spokesman Patrick Bindon told press that the company was talking to Fiji`s government. "We need to have a calm approach to that until we find out what is being claimed and what will be investigated by government," he said in an interview.
