A recent report by The Sentry alleges that political and military leaders in South Sudan have been  benefited from resource-related conflict by embezzling oil revenue to secure lavish lifestyles abroad for their families. In the meantime, more than half of the South Sudanese population lives in abject poverty and depends on food aid. The report calls on the "international community and regional actors should pursue a more deliberate strategy to diminish the incentives and resources that are funding and fueling the current conflict".
