DRC: Govt authority called to sanction mining companies over failure to comply with community development fund participation requirement

"DRC - Non-payment of the community development fund: the Minister of Mines called upon to sanction failing mining companies" 15 March 2024

At a workshop held in Kinshasa on March 13, the managers of the Community Development Funds recommended to the Minister of Mines, Antoinette N'samba Kalambayi, to sanction mining companies that do not pay the annual allocation of 0.3% of their turnover to local communities affected by mining. Participants to the second workshop to assess and strengthen the capacities of the specialized bodies in charge of managing the endowment of at least 0.3% turnover of mining companies, also urged the miners to fulfil their obligation. During the meeting, several recommendations were provided to community development fund supervisors including the revision of certain procedures handbooks, more transparency and celerity in projects management.
