MUJI's response to allegations of abuses in Myanmar garment factories - Nov 2023 update

[...]

You have pointed out human rights violation allegations carried out by Dong Long Garment and Myanmar Sunway Shoes. Whilst Ryohin Keikaku Co., Ltd, which operates the MUJI brand, has sourced from these factories in the past, we currently have no trading relationship with them. Since the termination of our procurement in August 2023, we have not purchased and have no plan to purchase any more products from those companies...

Our record shows that we carried out social audits though independent audit experts on the factories of Dong Long Garment and Myanmar Sunway Shoes factory when we were sourcing from these companies. As a result of the audits, we did not find any critical human rights violations at that time. However, we detected several inadequate issues in the factory facilities. Based on our findings, we requested the companies to remediate these issues.

As we explained above, currently we are not procuring any product from Dong Long Garment nor from Myanmar Sunway Shoes. We will nonetheless continue to strengthen our human rights due diligence through our supply chain by paying attention to all the available information including the one that you kindly shared with us.
